Faith vs Fear

Let’s talk about COVID 19 for a minute. The media has been reporting nonstop about this pandemic. It’s on TV, it’s on the radio and its all-over social media. The fear that is being placed into us as viewers is incredible. In Mark 4: 35-41 the disciples were on a boat with Jesus when the wind started to blow, and the waves started to crash over the boat. The disciples were scared. The scripture says that the boat was nearly swamped with water. With all that has been going on I can say that feeling of being swamped and drowning is there daily. Some days it’s the worry about the virus and how quickly it’s spreading, other days it’s how am I going to work full time, go to school full time and home school my children full time. Let’s not forget the fear of one of us losing a job or being furloughed. I’m sure we can all create an overwhelming list that will produce anxiety.

Verse 37 says, “A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.” Taking a closer look at that the word NEARLY is what makes me stop and thank GOD! The dictionary defines nearly as very close to or almost. The boat almost sunk but Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves, and they ceased at His command. The disciples didn’t have faith and were scared. We should not be living in a spirit of fear. It is time for us to all activate our faith and release the fear.

I trust whole heartedly that we will get through this storm. Jesus said in Matthew 28:20 … And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. We will not be fearful, we will not be swamped, and we will not drown. Jesus is with us in every situation and storm, we can rest in Him and have faith that He will carry us through this time and the times to come.

I pray we all remain prayerful and trust that we will get through this. The hard times is where your faith is tested most. Your faith has to outweigh your fear.
